A lot has been written about Dovlatov, but I, as a zealous connoisseur of his talent and one of his first readers, everything written was seen weak or insufficient. I now and then went to tell about my beloved author what, as it seemed to me, I know and I understand only I alone. I did not want to retell the biography of Dovlatov, which, in my opinion, was just a huge list of everything that prevented him from living and printing. It was more important for me to write about the power of the impact of his prose on the reader, which I experienced on myself.
