Shackles. Petrov-Skitalets S.G.
Roman Kandala “shackles” by Stepan Gavrilovich Petrov-Sklitz (1869-1941) is the history of the Volga village from the 80s of the XIX century until the 1905 revolution. In the center of the events is the Volga village of Kandala, in which it is easy to find out the fragmentation of the writer, as in all the heroes of the novel - their living prototypes. The plot is based on the seizure of state-owned lands by the Samara merchant-millionaire Shikhobalov, the ruin of peasants and small industrialists under the onslaught of large capital, and the beginning of revolutionary fermentation.
In a living narrative, the entire “external and inner appearance of the village” takes place in a living story: rites, customs, work, songs, legends, traditions and fist fights. Showing various social layers, the Skitalet with love draws outstanding people from the people, their unchanging thirst for justice.
