Vadim Fofilov is a well-known documentary reporter who visited almost all zones of military conflicts from Yugoslavia to Iraq. “Shadows of Mali” is an exciting continuation of his debut novel “Captain Benfica’s Blade.”

Benfica, the daughter of the Arab Sheikh and a counterintelligence officer, goes to Mali to investigate the murder of his mother. The heroine has to operate in a detachment of rebels fighting against the French occupation forces, local Islamists and various gangs in the north of Sahara. All in order to find out: who sent the killer to her house many years ago.

“In January 2013, they looked with a partner of the ancient manuscripts in Mali. First, the menu in French in roadside cafés disappeared, then the cafe-laca themselves. In order not to fall under the blow of a multi-purpose fighter, at some point I had to fix the Presse stretch on the roof of the jeep.
