The main thing in the biographical book is historical accuracy. The author strove for this, realizing that the tragedy of the life and literary fate of the outstanding Russian writer Varlam Tikhonovich Shalamov could be truly realized only in the context of time. The whole path of Shalamov was “woven”, as he wrote, “with our history”. This is a pre-revolutionary Russian culture, and the revolution, and the 1920s, in which the writer developed as a person, and the Stalin era, which plunged him into the underworld of Kolyma, and all subsequent years, when fate was also not supported to him. How did Shalamov withstand heavy trials and express himself with such a powerful and majestic artistic force that shocked millions of people around the world? The book can give only part of the answers to these questions-the reader should think about everything else, relying on many new or little-known facts of the writer's biography.
