About the author: Eric Hösley a prominent Swiss journalist, professor of EPFL (Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne), writer, researcher of the history of Russia. At the age of twelve, he decided to study the Russian language through which he was imbued with interest in our country. “Together with knowledge of the language, you understand everything differently as you think: Russia is a whole world, a whole huge continent,” says Höley. For the first time he ended up in the Soviet Union in 1983, and since then his life has been inextricably linked with our country. Eric investigated the history of the Gulag, wrote a book about the Caucasian wars, traveled around the north, was in the Arctic, in the Urals, Baikal, Altai, the Far East and in many other places.
