Pavel Petrovich Bazhov (1879-1950) was born in the Ural city of Sysert. His mother was a skilled lace, and his father worked as a master at the factory, built here under Peter the Great. Pavel went to Yekaterinburg as a boy and entered the school; He later graduated from the famous Perm Theological Seminary. At the age of twenty, Bazhov became a national teacher, then worked as a journalist, editor, wrote books on the history of the Urals, collected folklore. In 1924, Bazhov’s first book “Urals” was published - memories of pre -revolutionary life at Sysert factories, and in 1939 - his most famous work - a collection of fairy tales “Malachite Casket”.
Even in ancient times, people have developed ideas that underground wealth is guarded by wonderful creatures. About the mistress of the Copper Mountain, about the Great Poloz, about the mysterious mine of the Gumushki, about the grandmother Sinyushka and her bottomless well with the gems of Bazhov heard stories in both his own family and at the factory. All these folklore characters became the characters of his legends, in which the fairy tale bizarre intertwined with real life.
“Malachite box” from year to year was replenished with new stories. She brought Bazhov popular fame - he was awarded the State Prize. In 1944, Bazhov was awarded the Order of Lenin. The collection of fairy tales "Malachite box" was rightfully included in the treasury of world literature.
