Sister Kerry. Jenny Gerhardt. Dreiser T.
Theodore Dreiser is the famous American prose writer, publicist and public figure. His works, affecting acute social problems, enjoyed and continue to enjoy great success among readers around the world. The writer’s literary debut was the “sister of Kerry” (1900) - the story of the elevation of the main character, the young provincial of Carolina Miber, achieved by the cost of numerous moral compromises, and the inaching of the prestigious Bar of George Gertosty for the life bottom. According to Sinclair Lewis, this novel “burst into the musty atmosphere of philistine America as a free western wind”, “freeing American literature from Victorian... timidity and pretentiousness and directing it along the path of an honest, bold and passionate image of life.” The second novel by Dreiser, Jenny Gerhardt (1911), telling about the fate of a girl from a poor family, whose life is full of dramatic partings and tragic losses, contributed to the affirmation of his reputation as an outstanding author, before and after which American literature, according to the famous journalist Henry Luis Menken, “differs almost the same as biology before and after Darwin.”
