Slavic geographical terminology. Semasiological sketches. Tolstoy N.I.
A real book containing materials on Slavic geographical terminology, the interest in which arose almost simultaneously with the first experiments of establishing and comprehending the family ties of various Slavic “dialects”, is one of the results of the work of the Polesie linguistic expedition, held in 1962-1965. The material for comparison was involved on the principle of the community of Polesie and other Slavic lexemes or the identity of semantic shifts, observed already on the example of other lexemes. Particular attention in the book is given to dialect vocabulary. The publication also contains a number of articles close in the theme of N. I. Tolstoy later and published in various collections.
The material of this book can serve as a source for toponymic research and solving various etymological problems, and should also attract the attention of geographers and employees of local history museums.
