The arrival of the Hungarians (Magyar) to Western Europe at the turn of the 9th-10th centuries. He became an event that significantly changed the entire alignment of forces on the continent. It was especially strongly influenced by the Slavic tribes and the early states of the Western Slavs (especially the Great Moravian Principality). Until the appearance of the work of the Russian Slavist K.Ya. The grotto (1881) in science was predominated by the point of view that the Magyar invasion was disastrous for them. However, the study of K.Ya. The grotto in many ways changed this idea, showing that the Magyars, although they caused many disasters of the Slavs, played the role of a stronghold against the German Drange Nach Osten - “march to the east” for the Western Slavs.
