SMERSH. Battles under the stamp "Secret". North A.
eighty years ago, in April 1943, in the People's Commissariat of Defense (NGOs, Navy and internal affairs) of the NKVD, SMERSH counterintelligence structures were formed. Despite the fact that in May 1946, they ceased their activities, for three years they became the most effective special service of the Second World War. The main reason for this is, already in June-July 1941, military security officers-employees of special departments (predecessor Smersh) demonstrated a high level of professionalism successfully neutralizing intelligence officers and diversants of the enemy. Therefore, the history of the legendary SMERSH should begin in June 1941, and not from April 1943.
The famous historian of the special services is Alexander the North, in detail, reliably and objectively talks about how Smersh fought and what results achieved.
