Soldier award. Faulkner U.
William Folkner (1897–1962) - the famous American writer, prose writer, poet, Nobel Laureate of Literature (1949).
“Soldier award” - his first published novel (1926). The wounded pilot Donald Magon returns home from the European Military Theater, to the American hinterland. His face is mutilated, he gradually loses his eyesight and says almost nothing. It is clear to everyone around him that it will be difficult for a young hero unaccompanied to get to his native town in Georgia. And the company is for him: former soldier Joe Gilligen and young widow Mrs. Powers are undertaking to help. And here is the lieutenant at home.
Magon’s father, a priest who considered his son to be dead, is crazy about joy, but over time she fades away, is replaced by confusion from what his boy returned. The bride faints from horror at the first meeting with him. What's next? No one can understand what Donald Magon thinks about in the darkness that feels around him, what he feels, what he hopes and how he can help him - if possible. Is he really alive?..
