Konstantin Simonov’s trilogy “Living and Dead”, telling about the Great Patriotic War, includes three novels: “Living and Dead” (1959), “Soldiers are not born” (1964) and “Last Summer” (1970).

The events taking place in the novel “Soldiers are not born”, in the second book of the trilogy, belong to the battle for Stalingrad in the winter of 1942-1943.
