“Sonnets to Orpheus”-the last poetic cycle of the Austrian poet-Modernist and translator Rainer Maria Rilke (1875–1926), a kind of requiem on the eighteen-year-old Outcam-Knop, who died in 1922 from leukemia. Five years later, the poet himself will die from this disease. Rilke seemed to see in the death of this young girl, whom he barely knew, his own death, but behind her - not oblivion, but inconsistency, immortality of art, and in it - the triumph of life.
In the present edition, sonnets are published In the original and in the updated, corrected and supplemented translation by the poet Alexei Purina.
