"Sovereign" is the most famous and significant work of Niccolo Machiavelli. It tells about the methods of seizing power, methods of government and the characteristics of the ruler necessary for competent management and retention of power. Machiavelli allowed any means in the struggle for the consolidation of power: deception, insidiousness, betrayal, violence - therefore, his work received a very ambiguous assessment of contemporaries and descendants, and the Catholic Church introduced this essay to the list of prohibited books. In addition to the “Sovereign” treatise, the collection presents the most important political works of the Florentine thinker, in which his most daring ideas were developed.
