The attention of readers is proposed to the first scientific publication of thematically diverse jokes that had a walk in the USSR from 1917 to 1991. The pointer is a systematized collection of records of Soviet jokes. The publication included materials from the press, emigrant collections, reports on the mood of the population, denunciations, court cases, entries of amateur folklorists, diaries of contemporaries and other sources. In total, in the sign of 5852 articles, each of which is dedicated to one anecdotal plot.

The theory of the genre, the features of the existence of a joke in the USSR are studied, the history of borrowing in emigrant and post -perestroika publications of Soviet political jokes is traced, the reliability of jokes of jokes in sources of different types is analyzed.
