Anthology recreates Stalin's contradictory appearance in the cultural memory of several generations of Soviet people. The book presents the rare texts of Stalin himself: his poems, articles, performances, orders of the Supreme Commander, historical toasts; Memories of contemporaries, documents. Samples of artistic works are given, which reflect the reception of the image of Stalin-a revolutionary, leader, commander, man: novels and stories, plays and poems created by eyewitnesses of the Stalin era and later interpreters-the 2nd half of the XX and the beginning of the XXI century. The image of Stalin is shown, as it is in folklore and pseudo -folklore texts (novelties, legends, ditties, jokes).
Anthology includes analytical excursions of historians, philosophers, philologists and culturalists who are thinking about the personality and character of Stalin, his philosophical and religious ideas, about the style of activity and creativity, about the significance for Russian and Soviet culture and its place in the place in the place Russian, Soviet and world history. The mutual polemicity of these scientific and philosophical discourses is due to both the time of understanding and the worldview position of the authors.
