The cycle of stories “Star Watch of mankind” about the most important, turning points of world history and people who managed to influence its move, Stefan Zweig (1881-1942), one of the best novelists of the 20th century, wrote in 1927. Among his heroes is the conqueror of Byzantium Sultan Muhammad, Vasco Nunez de Balboa, the discoverer of the Pacific Ocean; Ruzhe de Lil, the author of the great “Marseilles”; Goethe and his young lover, the heroes of the battle of Waterloo, the fathers of the telegraph, the openers of California gold and the submissions of the South Pole.
The book also included a story, probably, the most famous historical curiosity. After reading the “America” (1942), you will find out why America is called America in honor of America Vespucci, and not Colombia - in honor of the columbus that opened it.
