The tales of the Russian and Soviet writer, the Ural narrator, the talented handler of folk traditions, legends, the Ural tales of Pavel Petrovich Bazhov (1879–1950) were absorbed by plot motifs, fantastic images, flavor, the language of folk traditions and folk wisdom. Both the Russian classics N.V. Gogol, N. S. Leskov, V. I. Dahl, so contemporaries of Bazhov, turned to the fairy -tale form of the narrative: I. E. Babel, M. M. Zoshchenko, A. M. Remizov, M. Having shown himself in this genre as an independent artist, P.P. Bazhov used the knowledge of the Ural mining of life and oral folk art for the embodiment of moral and ethical ideas.
The present edition included four most popular and most famous works from the first time published on January 28, 1939 of the collection of fairy tales “Malachite Casket”: “Copper Mountain Mountain”, actually “Malachite box”, “Stone flower” and “Mountain Master” - with drawings of the original Rostov artist Marina Valentinovna Ordyn.
