Stop in the desert. The end of the beautiful era. Brodsky I.

Poetic collections of Joseph Brodsky “Stop in the desert”, “End of the beautiful era”, “Part of speech”, “New Stans by August”, “Urania” and “Landscape with Flood” for a long time remained inaccessible to Russian readers, except "Samizdat." In the 1970-1990s, these books were published by the American publishing house "Ardis". Brodsky gratefully wrote that Karl Profer, one of the founders of Ardis, managed to maintain the continuity of the development of Russian literature and its high significance, to save many Russian writers and poets from oblivion.

The collection “Stop in the desert "Was compiled by the author in Russia. It included poems of the 1960s (“Christmas romance”, “Big Elegy to John Donna”, “A. A. Akhmatova”, “God in the village does not live in the corners”, the poem “Gorbunov and Gorchaks” and other works). Initially, in 1970, it was published in the Chekhov Publishing House, and in 1988, Ardis released a reprint.

The collection of the End of the Beautiful Age, first published in 1977, includes poems of 1964-1971, written written Brodsky before leaving the Soviet Union. Among them are so famous as “Speech about the spilled milk”, “Dedicated to Yalta”, “Conversation with the celestial”, “Lithuanian divertissement” and others.
