In the play "Thunderstorm" A.N. Ostrovsky depicted the life of the merchant city of the mid -19th century and the personal tragedy of everyone who dared to resist the "dark kingdom" of philistine life. The main character Katerina is dreamy and original, she is not able to withstand a rude attitude towards herself and suffers from the unjust ponds of the widow of Kabanova, who holds a family in obedience. Without resigning to a difficult life in the house with a despotistical mistress, the girl makes a challenge to the usual foundations. She risks greatly when she decides on treason to her husband with the one whom her heart loves for real. And even the fictional city of Kalinov cannot close his eyes to this misconduct.
