Igor Nikolaevich Sukhikh (b. 1952)-Doctor of Philology, Professor of St. Petersburg University, writer, critic. The author of more than 500 scientific works on the history of Russian literature of the XIX-XX centuries, including the monographs “Problems of the poetics of Chekhov” (1987, 2007), “Sergey Dovlatov: Time, place, Fate” (1996, 2006, 2010), “Books of XXX centuries. Russian canon ”(2001),“ The prose of the Soviet century: three destinies. Babel. Bulgakov. Zoshchenko ”(2012),“ Russian canon. Books of the twentieth century ”(2012),“ From... and to... sketches of Russian literature ”(2015) and others, as well as the Russian literature for everyone who loves schoolchildren and teachers.

The book “Structure and meaning” was the result of research and teaching experience I.N. Sukhikh. It can be put on a par with textbooks on introducing into literary criticism, but it has at least three significant differences. Firstly, this book is interesting to read, and not just to study on it; Secondly, it successfully combines theory and practice: in the section “Illustrations”, articles on private issues of literary criticism are placed; And thirdly, with all the academicity of the presentation, the book is addressed to the widest circle of readers.
