The story of Ivan Sergeyevich Shmelev (1873-1950) “Summer of the Lord” is one of the brightest and joyful books of world literature. He wrote it for more than twenty years, in adulthood, having survived two world wars, three revolutions, emigration, the execution of his son, hunger and poverty, departure from his beloved capital to other people's inhospitable European capitals, Berlin and Paris. Nevertheless, he managed to restore all the sweet and joyful impressions of childhood.
