Sitting with a cool summer day in the cemetery at the grave of his wife, the criminal inspector Evert Grens meets a woman who is surprisingly similar to his dead Annie. She shows him a grave with a simple white cross and a single inscription: "My little girl."

The daughter of this woman inexplicably disappeared several years ago: the desperate mother lost all hope and now comes to mourn the empty coffin. Grens decides at all costs to find out what happened to the girl - this business becomes too personal for him.
