The book included 25 folk tales and traditions of the Vietnamese (the people of the people) in the translations of Russian orientalists. The prologue discusses the history of the study of Vietnamese fairy tales in Russia and in Vietnam, the problem of classifying the genres of Vietnamese folklore, the specifics of the most widespread and stable fairy -tale motives and plot schemes. The texts of fairy tales are accompanied by a structural, cultural and historical analysis of plots, motives, heroes and realities. The book is richly illustrated by the popular paintings of Dongho.

The publication is addressed to both experts in the history, culture and folklore of Vietnam, as well as a wide circle of readers.
