The supplemented edition of the Tatars volume in the series “Peoples and Cultures” of the Russian Academy of Sciences is due to the demand for this work in the scientific, pedagogical and social spheres in all regions of the Russian Federation and, especially in the Republic of Tatarstan. Labor was written by leading scientists of Russia and represents the most complete summary of historical and ethnographic knowledge about Tatars-the second largest people of the Russian Federation.

The publication is supplemented by materials of new research in the field of national history and culture of the Tatars of the Volga-Ural region of the Russian Federation Attracting comparative materials on Western Siberia, the Lower Volga and a number of neighboring countries. Significantly updated the volume of sources in ethnic history and historical demography, on traditional economy and everyday life, material and spiritual culture, in related disciplines: anthropology, dialectology, linguistics, ethnosociology.
