The beginning of infinity: the explanations that change the world. 5th edition. (cover). David Deutch
British physicist David Deutsch is not only one of the founders of the theory of quantum computing, but also a philosopher who seeks to comprehend the “eternal questions” of mankind in the context asked by the development of science. The core question of this book: is there a limit for human progress? The answer is expressed in the title: we are standing at the beginning of the endless path, which will lead us, putting forward and criticizing them, our universal mind. We took this path in the Enlightenment, but it is easy to get down from it under the influence of erroneous philosophical ideas, to which the author considers many currents of thought from positivism to postmodernism, not to mention religion. An example of a retreat from the path of reason in science is a Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics. Deuts sees a reasonable alternative to her in the interpretation of Everett, from which the picture of the world follows as multi -senior. But the sphere of interests of the author is not limited to science. Based on the ideas of Karl Popper and the concept of a reasonable explanation, Deuts formulates the theory of cognition, from which it derives the existence of objective truth in ethics and aesthetics, as well as political principles that contribute to unlimited progress.
