“The burden of human passions” can be called the “Roman of Education”, where the author traces the life of the protagonist Philip Carey from childhood to adolescence, from youth to maturity.

A lot of tests falls on his lot: the early death of his parents, the desperate search for their recognition in the world, doomed relations with a frivolous woman. Having grinded a lot of disappointments, changing his views, from submission to his own passions to self -denial, Philip is trying to weave the thread of his own life.
