1982. Soviet scientists are developing the latest combat flamethrower system. Western special services manage to recruit one of the project participants - scientist Alexei Poplavsky. The KGB becomes known about this. Sensing danger, the traitor leaves for a symposium in Germany and remains abroad. A group of Major Mikhail Koltsov sets off in search of a fugitive.
