The book introduces readers to the Swedish historical works of the XIII-XVI centuries: Vadstensky Diary, the Life of St. Eric, the so-called. “Prose chronic”, “History of the Gothic Kingdom”, “Swedish chronicle”. Translations were made by the Doctor of Historical Sciences A. D. Shcheglov according to publications in the Latin, ancient Swedish and early Novoshwed languages. It is shown how the medieval Swedish historiography developed, how the interpretation of its key topics changed: thoughts about the tasks of the chronicle, description of Sweden, reasoning about antiquity, the thought of what the monarch should be.
