The name of Alexander Alexandrovich Vishnevsky occupies one of the honorary places in the history of medicine. Many of his ideas were innovative, and surgical interventions were the first in the country and in the world. He became one of the founders of cardiovascular surgery in the USSR, contributed to the creation and development of many areas of surgery and related specialties, developed problems of pain relief in heart surgery, lungs and mediastinum, nervous trophism in surgery.

during Great Patriotic War Alexander Alexandrovich Vishnevsky was the main surgeon of the Volkhov and Karelian fronts. He was called the "healer of soldiers' wounds." This book is literary processing of his personal diary, which he regularly conducted during 1941-1945.
