The drama Schiller, written at the end of the 18th century, gave rise to a whole layer of literature about the noble heroes violating the law. In the 19th century, Walter Scott wrote the “robber” novel “Rob Roy”. Alexander Dumas and Howard Pyle described the adventures of Robin Hood, and Alexander Pushkin introduced his readers to Dubrovsky. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Europeans were read out by the adventures of Maurice Leblan, the elusive robber Arsen Lupin. Roman Rafael Sabatini “Odyssey of Captain Blade”, published in 1922, fits perfectly into a number of these works. The image of Pirate Peter Blade created by Sabatini was endowed with all the qualities of the superhero. He is tall, thin, strong and dexterous, has a living mind, ingenuity and rich imagination. Blood never loses self -control and observes a peculiar code of honor. The pirate does not rob the pirate for the sake of profit: in life, an insatiable thirst for adventure leads. It is not surprising that it was the novel about the ups and downs on the path of such a character that brought Rafael Sabatini European glory.

Feeling Sabatini took up early, at twenty years old, and although the stories of the young writer willingly printed English magazines, the literature was occupied by another ten years It remained for Raphael more likely with entertainment than the main thing of life. Parents of the future writer, professional opera singers, pushed the young man to engage in commerce, rightly believing that knowledge of languages ​​will help him in this matter. Rafael was fluent in five languages: Italian was his family for him, and he learned English, communicating with his maternal grandmother. She lived under the Liverpool and took care of a young grandson for several years, while his parents gave a concert in Europe. When Rafael attended a Catholic school in the port, where his father and mother opened the school of singing, he also studied Portuguese. He later mastered French and German - the family lived for a long time abroad. And yet, when the first book of Raphael was published in 1904, he decided to completely devote himself to literature. Since that time, Sabatini regularly released on a novel or a story every year. However, success did not immediately come to him: exciting stories about Captain Blade won glory when the writer was almost fifty years old.

Captain Blood first appeared in the stories united by the general name “Coastry Brotherhood”. This cycle began to be published in the journal "Premier" in December 1921. Sabatini wrote new text about blades, remade the old ones and eventually united all these works. Later, two more novels came out about the hero beloved by the readers: “Chronicle of Captain Blad” and “Fortune by Captain Blade”. All nine stories, along with other writings of the writer, are presented in this book.
