The novel by the famous writer is dedicated to the Hero of the Patriotic War of 1812, General - Major Alexander Nikitich Seslavin (1780-1858). He fought side by side with a Bagration near Austerlitz, as an adjutant of Barclay - de - Tolly, was a member of the battles under the Smolensk and Borodino battle. Later he took command of a light detachment for guerrilla actions. It was thanks to Seslavin that the French retreat from Moscow was discovered, who tried to go to the “winter apartments” along the Kaluga road, and the barrier was placed at the Maloyaroslavets. Alexander was wounded nine times in battles, heroically gone through the war of 1812, distinguished himself during the liberation of Vyazma, Vilna, participated in the foreign campaign of the Russian Army of 1813-1814, showed unprecedented courage in the battle of Leipzig and was at the triumphal parade of Russian troops in Paris.
