The god of one -story universe. Freeman S.
This book has become for many Western readers an amazing discovery of the depth and beauty of Orthodox Christianity. “Two -story universe” - this is the world of modern Christians. For them there is a “first floor” - our natural world, the universe, functioning according to natural (“secular”, “natural”, “scientific”) laws, and there is a “second floor” - the world of God, paradise, hell, angels and so on. Such a system of views has only a few centuries, but even from advanced Christians you can hear that the believers so imagined the world initially. Such a radical distortion of the Christian worldview leads to both bizarre attempts to deny objective reality and to unbelief. Stephen Freeman’s book that God is not “somewhere there”, but everywhere. Having ceased to “resettle” God to another, “spiritual” world, we will find His true presence here in our world and in our life. The book is recommended for publication by the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church.
