Acquaintance with the history of French cities will help to better understand the history of Europe: since it was France for centuries that was a recognized center of politics, economics, and culture of the whole continent. The era of the Crusades began in France, the first elements of citizenship appeared, and in the 12th century the University of Paris was established...

But the main characters of this book were not Paris and its environs, known to almost everyone, but the large and small cities of France , which also made a tangible contribution to world history and culture. These are the cities of Brittany, Normandy, Provence, Berry, Burgundia, Alsace-historical regions, once independent, and now truly French. But local residents still carefully preserve and appreciate their unique features.

Today, ancient French cities - witnesses of great conquests, wars, revolutions, as well as discoveries and achievements in medicine, art and architecture - allow us to feel like Participants in real European history. Who knows, maybe these cities in the future, as in distant times, will again enter the historical arena?
