“The History of Rembrandt,” is the history of the formation of the Republic of the United Provinces, told through the life of people captured by the great Dutch artist. The author fascinatingly talks about the political and religious struggle, about disputes on the issue of predestination, about trading with the enemy, the marriages of the sons of stagalters with the English princesses and the Anglo-Council wars. The reader also finds out about various aspects of everyday life: what the Dutch were sick and how they were treated, who studied at the university, how the procedure for election to the city council was held, where Dutch tourists were traveled and interested in. He will also get acquainted with the portraits of Rembrandt, stored in Western collections and are therefore less known than the artist’s paintings in the Russian museums.
