The book “The History of Russian Oil, about which we know so little” talks about the beginning, formation, flourishing and problems of the oil industry in our state. The chronological framework of this exciting and dramatic narrative is 1700–1922.

A huge part of the information is based on inaccessible printed sources and archival documents. The richest illustrative material is almost entirely taken from Moscow archives and supplemented by materials from the digital collections of the RSL and the National Library of France. Well -known historical facts acquire a completely different sound on the pages of the book.

The task of the compilers was to tell about the rise and falls of Russian oil and to help readers better understand what happened in pre -revolutionary Russia and in the early years of the USSR, and possibly also to understand many of today's problems.
