1941, Warsaw is occupied by German troops. Maria Florkovskaya is only fourteen, but she already dreams of becoming a world chess champion. In the meantime, she trains with her father for days, and in the evenings she becomes a participant in the Polish resistance.
Once on a mission, she makes a fatal mistake, and she and her relatives are sent to Auschwitz, where political prisoners have one path - to the wall - to the wall executions. But the deputy commandant of the camp, Karl Frich, learn about her skills in the chess player. He decides to use the girl for his own entertainment - to arrange tournaments between her and other prisoners, the price of loss in which is death.
Maria every day is fighting, wanting to survive at all costs, get out of the camp and force me to pay for the deeds of her family.
