The last of the great prophets. Demchenkov S.
The book proposed to the attention of readers is dedicated to Protopop Avvakum - one of the most striking and mysterious figures in the history of Ancient Rus'. The assessments of his personality and activity are extremely contradictory: the Pustozersky prisoner is called the greatest heretic in Rus' and the saints; And a daring literary innovator, and a consistent traditionalist. The key to understanding the “rebellious protopop” as a person and writer gives his main creation - an autobiographical “life”. The study of the ideological and philosophical and genre specifics of this monument in the aspect of the biblical professional tradition allows us to conclude that we have not a modernized hagiographic text, not the “first swallow” of the Russian realistic novel, and not even a spiritual testament, but... a book of the prophet that finds a consistent orientation on Old and New Testament samples and comprehended by Avvakum as a self-report of the messenger of God on the execution of the mission entrusted to him from above.
The book is addressed to historians, philosophers, culturalists and religious scholars, as well as all those who are interested in the personality of Protopop Avvakum and the original Russian culture of the 17th century.
