The leader of the Redskins
William Sidney Porter, who wrote under the pseudonym O. Henry (1862-1910), is an American writer, a recognized master of a short story. The future writer was left early without his mother, and at the age of fifteen he threw a school and entered the student at the pharmacist store, where he received the profession of a pharmacist, later worked as a draftsman, an accountant and a cashier at the bank. The first literary experiments dates back to the early 1880s, when Porter begins to publish a humorous weekly in Austin, filling it with his essays, drawings, jokes. Due to the lack of money, the magazine closed a year later. And soon the porters were fired from the bank, accused of embezzlement of funds, and for three years he spent in prison, without ceasing to write stories. After the release, Porter moved to New York, and his stories quickly gained popularity among readers, and critics began to call the writer “American Gogol”, “American Chekhov”. In total, O. Henry wrote 273 stories, a complete collection of his works is 18 volumes. Heroes of the stories by O. Henry Cowboy and millionaires, speculators and clerks, bandits and politicians, writers and laundresses - people taken from life, bright and colorful. The intricate stories of stories certainly end with an unexpected denouement. In the story “Leader of the Red -skinned” two scammers, Sam and Bill, abduct a nine -year -old boy, hoping to get a ransom from his father for him. But the boy, who calls himself the leader of the Red -browl, does not seek to return home... The collection includes stories of different years.
