The legend of the great inquisitor. Articles. Rozanov V.V.
The book of the philosopher and literary critic Vasily Rozanov “The Legend of the Great Inquisitor F. M. Dostoevsky” was published in 1894. She brought fame to Rozanov and became the first work in which Dostoevsky is represented as a religious thinker. It was Rozanov - an attentive and sensitive critic, a subtle expert of art - laid the foundation for the understanding of Dostoevsky’s work (which he was passionate about all his life) in line with Christian creed. According to Rozanov, the “Legend of the Great Inquisitor” is the quintessence of the novel “Brothers Karamazov”: “... it is the“ Legend ”that makes up the soul of the whole work that is only grouped near it, as variations near its topic; The cherished thought of the writer is buried in it, without which not only this novel would not be written, but also many other works of him: at least there would not be all the best and most high places in them. ”
The publication also includes chapters from the collection "Literary Essays" (1899).
