Ivan Chonkin is one of the most beloved characters in Russian -speaking literature. It can only be compared with the Czech “colleague”, a brave soldier Schweik, but even this awkward hero loses to Chonkin in the incredibly of the adventures and absurdity of the surrounding (Soviet) reality.
