A certain number of stories about the life of the ascetics of faith recorded by direct eyewitnesses, live witnesses of events have been preserved. These biographies are especially important for modern Christians. The insignificant details captured in them, it would seem, help us to understand and feel all the reality and authenticity of what was happening. The present publication includes several well -preserved and historically reliable lives and martyrdom. They cover the era from the very first years of Christianity until the time of St. Sergius of Radonezh.
