In this novel, Tony Morrison shows the dark backstage of the little American town, where Pikula Bridlav lives, whose only dream is blue eyes. Beauty is a relative concept, but there is no black beauty for America of the 40s. Morrison tells the tragedies woven from the flaps of tragedies, ignorance, prejudices the story of a black girl who wants one - to look at her differently. And also - the stories of many other people: her parents, classmates, acquaintances. Before us are the events that turned the life of the Pikolas forever. There are books that are painful. But this is a healing pain, because what Morrison wrote about, all her books are about love. “The most blue eyes” is the story of a girl told in four parts. In the focus of the novel there is a tragic event - the eleven -year -old Picola is pregnant from his own father. Fragments of the narrative cover for several decades and talk about many people: her parents, classmates, acquaintances - about everyone who is connected with her, and about what events led to such a tragedy. Cholly, the father of Pikola, at a young age lost his only family that he had - aunt. Mother abandoned him when he was a baby, and his father escaped before his birth. Pikola's mother, Paulin, dreamed of pure love and good wife, and her romance with Chololli was at first full of tenderness, but eventually turned into fierce swearing and beatings. For many years of unlucky marriage, a drinking husband and unfulfilled dreams turned Paulin into a blacken woman. Once, the memories of long -standing sincere love in Paulin pushing Cholly to rape their own daughter. Claudia - a girl, on behalf of which is the narrative - faces her problems: seeks acceptance and friendship in a society in which they look at blacks with contempt. Constant skirmishes with classmates and street boys lead her to despair, and when she finds out that she had happened to the Pikola, she sincerely wants to help. He and her sister plant flowers and pray to God, asking her child to survive. Pikula herself just wants to be beautiful and dreams of blue eyes. But what happened destroys the fate of the girl: after the loss of the child who was born prematurely, the Pikula goes crazy and remains alone until the end of his life.
