Karl von Clausewitz is known primarily as the author of fundamental work on military art - “On the War”, which was translated into many languages of the world and was repeatedly reprinted. The Prussian officer, a participant in the Napoleonic wars, whose personal experience, of course, was reflected in the treatise, studied about 130 campaigns to comprehend the nature and laws of war. Clausewitz taught military sciences to the crown prince, subsequently King of Prussia Friedrich Wilhelm IV, but in 1812, at the peak of the glory of Napoleon, he switched to Russian service. Going to the Russian army, he made additions to the course, which he read to his August Pupil, calling them "the most important principles of war." According to the author himself, his task was “not to report a certain circle of knowledge”, but to create a “textbook leading to independent thoughts”, to reveal the strategy and tactics of fighting.
