The noise of time. Mandelstam O.E.

Prose O. E. Mandelstam is a significant and unique phenomenon of Russian literature. The remaining almost unnoticed during his lifetime, she embodied those tectonic shifts, without which it is impossible to imagine the avant -garde art of the 20th century today. First of all, this prose of the poet is the expression of the same universal, Gothic worldview, which permeates the poetic cosmos of Mandelstam. Things here seem to be captured by double vision: with the accuracy of a meticulous-entitled observer-and at the same time from the height of the entire world culture. Hence the ultimate saturation of images, the depth and multifaceted of each phrase, the polyphonic, leitmotic narrative, prose, which, according to A. A. Akhmatova, “was not in the entire 20th century.”

Selected prose works in this book Mandelstam is presented in three sections. The first was his autobiographical works - “The noise of the time”, “Theodosius”, “Egyptian brand”, “The fourth prose”. The second section includes the articles and essays of the poet devoted to various issues of history and the theory of culture. The publication “Talk about Dante” closes, which is not only a bright and deep reading of the “divine comedy”, but also inspired reflection on the very nature of the poetic word.
