The origins. 150 years of the marginalist revolution

The tenth release of the “origins” is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the marginalist revolution, which, in fact, separated the “backstory” from the “new history” of economic science. It publishes the little -known work of the founders of the marginalist revolution - K. Menger, U.S. Jevons and L. Valras.

The first section reveals their attitude to the history of economic teachings and their ideological predecessors, the second-views on socio-political issues. The third section is dedicated to the theories of money. In addition, the Almanac includes an article by W. Zhaff, the largest researcher of Valras’s work, about the correspondence of Valras with the great mathematician Poincare. J. Campanyolo considers the work of K. Menger in the context of his family, as well as social life and the intellectual atmosphere of Austria and Germany.

The article of the Czech researcher M. Louzhek makes us witnesses to the famous dispute about the method between Menger and Schmoller. R.I. Kaplyushnikov presents the reader of the idea of ​​one of the most interesting thinkers of this period - F.G. Whose work “Subject and method of political economy” (1914) is published in the Almanac. The first noticeable response to the marginalist revolution in Russia is also placed here - an article by M.I. Tugan-Baranovsky in the "Legal Herald" of 1890, the significance of which for the perception of the marginalist revolution in our country is revealed in the work of N.A. Makasheva. Article A.V. Safronova - the only one in this issue that is not related to the marginalist revolution - continues the topic of understanding the role of the state plan in the Soviet economic system.
