The book is dedicated to the Schigumen John (Alekseev; 1873-1958). Valaam old man. He spent almost his whole life in the monastery, was the rector of the Trifo-Pechenskaya monastery, and the last two decades of life was the confessor of the Valaam monastery in Finland. His main spiritual work is a constant prayer for the souls of all mourning. Father John led an extensive correspondence. His letters were repeatedly published in Russia, Finland, Serbia.

The book contains his advice, teachings and instructions.
