Philosophy, art, democracy, language and even computers - many of our achievements originate in Greek civilization. As you know, the Greek empire of Alexander the Macedonian and the Roman Empire was essentially Greek. The Greeks turned to the Greeks in search of inspiration by the Renaissance and philosophers of European Enlightenment.

Following the clear chronology, James Henje briefly and large strokes draws the history of Greece. The first part of the book is dedicated to the period from antiquity itself to 1453 - this time calls the author “the rule of half of the world”. In 1453, Greece lost its independence and became part of the Ottoman Empire, so that the second part covers a temporary segment of almost four hundred years, which the author calls the “most long dream” of the nation. 1830, a year of complete awakening from this “sleep”, became the date of proclamation and final recognition of the independence of the Kingdom of Greece. The third part describes the history of modern Greece until 1949 (the reign of Otto, George I, the Revolution and the Civil War in Russia, the First and Second World War and the Civil War in Greece). The fourth part covers the events from 1949 to 2020.

The result was a compressed and informative chronicle of the historical path of the Greeks with a length of more than three thousand years.
