The book included the essay of Joseph Brodsky, in which he reflects on the past and present poetry from antiquity to the present day, about its role in human life and society, about the nature of creativity. They are dedicated to such poets as Horace, Dante Aligieri, Thomas Gardi, Konstantinos Kavafis, Rainer Maria Rilke, Robert Frost, Wrist Hugh Oden, Derek Walcott. The essays were written in English and entered the author’s collections “Less That One” (“Less unity”, 1986) and “On Grief and Reason” (“On Sorrow and Mind”, 1995), published in Russian < /p>
