The story of emotions. 2nd edition. Plamper Ya.
The book is devoted to the history of the study of emotions - one of the fastest growing areas in modern historical science. It is the first monograph, introducing the reader both with the past and present of this area, and with the proposed direction of its further development. The book is built around the dispute between the socio-constructivist and universalist theories of emotions-a dispute that has structured research practice in various fields of study of feelings for more than a hundred years: social constructivists believe that emotions are mainly the result of learning, culturally specific and subject to historical changes, where Universalists insist that emotions are the same in all cultures and at all times.
The author historizes and problematizes this binary opposition, indicating the possibilities of studying emotions outside constructivism and universalism. In addition, the book describes the history of academic reflection on feelings in the sciences of life - from experimental psychology of the 19th century. to the latest affective neuronauca, as well as in anthropology, philosophy, sociology, linguistics, art history, political science and history from ancient times to the present day.
